WHAT shall we then say that Abraham our father according to the flesh?
For if Abraham was justified by works, it has something to boast about, but not before God.3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness.
Now to him who works, are not counted the reward by grace, but of debt.
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness without works, 7 Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Cometh this blessedness then on the circumcision, or also upon the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
How was it then reckoned? While they were circumcised or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.
And he received the sign of circumcision, seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that the father of all who believe, though they be not circumcised; so that also the righteousness imputed to them;
And the father of circumcision to those who not only are circumcised but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, who had being yet uncircumcised.
For the promise that he would be heir of the world was not through the law to Abraham, or to his seed, but through the righteousness of fé.14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is vain and promise is annihilated.
For the law worketh wrath. Because there is no law there is no transgression.
Therefore it is of faith that it might be by grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but also to that of the faith of Abraham, who is the father All of us,
(As it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which be not as though they were.

Who in hope believed against hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
